THEnet and The Network: TUFH members discuss COVID-19 and Organizational Responses to Infectious Disease Outbreaks

On April 21st, 2020 André-Jacques and Björg delivered two webinars and discussions for The Network: Towards Unity for Health on the Organizational Response to Infectious Disease Outbreaks and their relation to pandemics for Health System Reform. Thirteen years ago, before the creation of THEnet, Björg, André -Jacques, and Susan Hall Baker, then leaders of a Center for Global Health at New York University did an assessment of the international organizational response to infectious disease epidemics, that appeared as a chapter in a book entitled The Social Ecology of Infectious Diseases (Ed. Elsevier). It provided recommendations on improving organizational responses, emphasizing the importance of strengthening capacity in terms of prevention, primary care, and epidemic control in countries and communities where health systems are the weakest. In the webinar, Björg and Andre-Jacques used the recommendations from the study, to engage participants in discussions on Covid19 and on priority actions needed to reform the structures and systems to mitigate the effects of future pandemics.
