This qualitative study explores community perspectives on factors that support the development, effectiveness, and sustainability of community–academic partnerships. Through 25 interviews with community members from eight partnerships at five academic health centers, nine key themes emerged as critical for success: trust-building, respect for community knowledge, community-driven priorities, shared roles, flexibility, capacity-building, equitable resource allocation, sustainability, and funding challenges. Findings highlight the importance of genuine collaboration and long-term investment in ensuring effective and lasting community–academic partnerships.
