This study examines how community engagement supports social accountability at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) through its Distributed Community Engaged Learning (DCEL) model across 90+ sites. Using quantitative and qualitative data, including surveys and tracking studies, findings show that community involvement spans all stages of medical education, from high school outreach programs to admissions and clinical training. Volunteers play a key role in the selection process, and Indigenous and rural communities actively participate in training medical students. Both learners and communities benefit from NOSM’s approach, demonstrating the positive impact of a regionally integrated, community-driven medical education model.
