This article proposes addressing the primary care workforce crisis in underserved areas by linking graduate medical education to care delivery in community health centers. By creating primary care teaching health centers within expanded, patient-centered medical homes, residents can complete their final training year in these settings and be incentivized to remain through programs like the National Health Service Corps. This approach would enhance clinical capacity immediately and help grow the primary care workforce, improving access for underserved populations and strengthening primary care training.
