This study explores Indigenous representation in Canadian medical schools, focusing on admissions processes, barriers, and support systems for Indigenous students. Using qualitative interviews with Indigenous medical students and faculty, the study identifies challenges such as systemic barriers, limited mentorship, and lack of culturally safe learning environments. Findings emphasize the need for holistic admissions policies, stronger Indigenous-led support networks, and greater institutional commitment to reconciliation and social accountability. The study calls for medical schools to implement culturally responsive recruitment and retention strategies to enhance Indigenous participation in medical education and improve health equity in Indigenous communities.
