This compendium is part of a health systems strengthening (HSS) resource package, providing guidance on monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) processes to track HSS progress, assess intervention effectiveness, and inform programming. It compiles a wide range of indicators supporting USAID’s health goals, including ending preventable child and maternal deaths and achieving an AIDS-free generation. Drawn from diverse sources, the indicators align with health system functions and were identified through a literature review on HSS monitoring frameworks. The compendium is structured into three sections: an introduction to indicators, an overview of HSS indicators, and detailed tables categorizing indicators by health system functions.
