Medical education today emphasizes community-centered care and social accountability. A key challenge is aligning education with community health needs to ensure graduates deliver effective healthcare. This study aims to identify core components of social accountability in medical education. A scoping review was conducted in 2023 using the PRISMA-ScR framework. Five databases were searched for studies on “medical education” and “social accountability.” Thematic content analysis was used to extract and synthesize relevant data. Out of 6313 records, 33 studies met the inclusion criteria, with many excluded for lacking specific components of social accountability. Key components identified include communication and equity in education and care, service quality and cost-effectiveness, curriculum reform, community-based research, and infrastructure support. These elements are essential for socially accountable medical education.
