This study evaluated the impact of community health workers (CHWs) who provided up to six months of education, advocacy, and social support to high-resource Medicaid enrollees in New Mexico. Among 448 participants, CHW intervention led to significant reductions in emergency, inpatient, and prescription service use and costs, compared to a matched group without CHW support. While both groups showed decreased utilization, the CHW group experienced greater overall cost savings, except in ambulatory services. The findings suggest that integrating CHWs into Medicaid managed care can enhance access to preventive and social services while reducing healthcare utilization and costs.
