Equity is Not What We Say — It’s What We Do
Why Equity Matters to Us
At THEnet, we work to advance health systems and education institutions that are responsive to the communities they serve—especially those historically excluded or underserved.
We’re a small organization with a global mission. And while we don’t have all the internal systems that larger institutions might, our equity commitments are real and deeply rooted in what we research, advocate for, build, and support through partnerships.
What We Stand For
We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live and work with dignity—without discrimination, bias, or systemic barriers.
In our projects, networks, and policy work, we explicitly engage with inequities related to:
- Gender, including identity and expression
- Race, ethnicity, and Indigenous status
- Disability (physical, psychosocial, cognitive)
- Sexual orientation
- Migration, refugee, and asylum status
- Caste or social origin
- Language, religion, and culture
- Socioeconomic and education background
- Age, caregiving, or health status
We use an intersectional lens in everything we co-design—because injustice is never experienced in isolation.
What Grounds Us
Our approach is aligned with global standards, including:
- The EU Gender Equality Strategy and Anti-Racism Action Plan
- The UN System-Wide Action Plan on Gender Equality (UN-SWAP)
- ILO Convention 190 on workplace violence and harassment
- Sustainable Development Goals 5 & 10
- And our founding belief that health equity begins with transforming the health workforce
What This Means Right Now
We are a very lean team with limited internal infrastructure—but high-impact external engagement. We:
- Center equity in our projects, tools, and strategies, and the guidance we provide
- Work with communities and institutions directly confronting inequity, with attention to shared ownership, accountability, and benefit
- Prioritize inclusive, participatory processes in our technical work
With a small staff, we don’t have internal equity audits, DEI committees, or staff-wide training programs—but:
As THEnet grows—both in team and board capacity—we are committed to fully implementing equity-informed governance, bias-aware organizational policies, and inclusive leadership development practices.
This includes:
- Equity-focused onboarding and staff development
- Transparent, bias-aware recruitment and compensation structures
- Internal mechanisms for reflection, feedback, and shared accountability
Our Commitments Going Forward
We will:
- Keep embedding equity in the frameworks we build and the change we support
- Ensure our internal growth is as values-aligned as our external work
- Stay open to feedback and challenge
- Grow with intention, integrity, and humility
Equity isn’t just a lens—it’s our direction.
And we’re building systems that reflect that, inside and out.
